--- YOUR SOCIAL PRESENCE PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE FOR YOUR FUTURE EMPLOYER---
Have you recently applied or been/planning for an interview? Ever noticed that the form which you are supposed to fill also asks for you social networking info? Well, that not for the employers to send you a friend request or to follow you. The best of you is already mentioned on your CV but what you actually are (in real life) is displayed in your posts on the social networking platforms. According to a survey by job site CareerBuilder India, 59% employers are currently using social media to research on job candidates, while another 33% are planning to access the platform soon.
As per CareerBuilder Human Resources Vice President - Rosemary Haefner, most of the candidates are rejected on the basis of qualification discrepancy (you might have said Grad on your CV but your social profile says UG), your communication skills (the kind of language you use, sentence formation, grammar, tenses, etc issues), inappropriate posts/pics, spreading negativity about the current or ex-employer(s) or employees, the kind of likes & interests you have shown while creating your profile... etc.
Now, are planning to hide your profile(s) before going for an interview? Don't even think about it cos no one will buy that you are not available on any of the social networking sites. You can either delete your unwanted post(s)/pics, etc, update correct & proper info about your personal & professional career & of course, think before you put up a post/pic & choose your likes & interests wisely.
We all started using social media to interact with friends & family however never realized that this could be one of the biggest hurdle & challenge in our career...
