Law - Above above all!
Equal for all?
6th May 2015: The 13 years
old 2002 hit & run case on actor Salman Khan finally heard a verdict. The
actor is sentenced for 5 years of imprisonment. Glad that finally our
jurisdiction took a call & its better to be late than never. No matter who you
are, the law is above all but is it really equal for all?
Khan's case was one of 18.5
million criminal cases pending in India & the actor himself was among the
22.2 million people under trial. Most of us are happy to see that Khan is no
special case in our Indian jurisdiction. Irrespective of who ever you are, if
you are guilty then you'll treated the same way as others. Apart from Khan,
there are few more cases in those millions where some business tycoons,
politicians & celebrities are involved in such hit & run cases however
our government has a different verdict for them.
10th Jan 1999: Sanjeev
Nanda, A student of Wharton Business School killed 6 people (from his BMW)
& the court has sentenced him 2 years of jail term (which he had already
spent), and an added large fine in addition to 2 additional years of community
service.
12th Nov 2006: Alistair
Pereira who belongs to the family of well known realtors, smashed his vehicle
hitting and running over 15 people in 2006, 7 of whom died while 8 were
injured. He was sentenced for 3 years of imprisonment.
December 1993: Puru Raaj
Kumar (son of late actor Raaj Kumar) (December 1993): ran over eight people
sleeping on a pavement in Bandra out of which 3 died and the others were
seriously injured. He is said to have paid a fine initially and the matter was
settled out of court.
1999: Sanjeev Nanda,
grandson of Admiral SM Nanda, ran his BMW over six people, including three
Delhi Police officers. 2 constables and 2 others died on the spot. The
Supreme Court in 2012 reduced his prison sentence to the two years, added a
substantial penalty, and sentenced him to do community service for two years.
Neel Chatterjee, Manish
Khatau, Ravindra Mhatre & many more are such names are there on file that
got away with a fine & hardly a few months/years in prison. Indeed Khan has
broken the law & he must be punished however why this bias attitude towards
him? 5 years on imprisonment for him & the people who killed more than 3,
for them just 2-3 years of imprisonment? Is it because the name is "Salman
Khan"? We not playing the game, “How many killed by whom” but if the law
has the provision for other celebs & business tycoons then why not Khan? What about those millions of cases which are still pending in the court? Most importantly, put yourself in Khan's shoes & think. If you were in his position, would you be asking for justice or a way to get out of this s**t!
We
are not supporting Khan for his action but for the kind of person he is. Why
the jurisdiction is not focusing of what Khan did for the family of the lost
victims? Did
anyone interviewed the constable (Salman's bodyguard) who was with him at the
time of accident about the compensation he might have received from Khan? Did
anyone figure the kind of amount Khan has spent in charity since then? Did
anyone checked with those who received Khan’s help? No!
IT WAS AN ACCIDENT DAMMIT! This case got a hike ‘cos Salman Khan was
involved. Now that the law has found him guilty, DO JUSTICE TO HIM!
I stand by
him who always stands for everyone!
