OYO Town House 011! What an experience!

OYOnauts!

Oyo Town House 011 - Kolkata
Oyo Town House 011
As a digital marketer, I keep on travelling a lot as per the project’s requirements & have experienced almost all kinds of hotels & motels of the country. Some experiences were par excellence, some average & some were more of a nightmare! No one’s perfect! You won’t get what’s called “a complete package”! Let’s accept it! As humans, we are never satisfied with whatever we have.

“What makes you perfectis not what you don’t have but how you make the most of whatever you have!”

Talking about travelling, I recently visited Kolkata, the cultural capital of India for a 2 weeks official trip. My expectations about a perfect hotel are; a beautiful ambiance (lobby, lawn), a cozy room, a fully equipped gym, bar/lounge with the latest tracks, mouthwatering food menu & a great room service. The first 3 days I stayed at Hotel Park Prime (a 4 star property) for Rs.6000/- per night, which was close to my expectations however, in order for me to survive for a longer time without compromising much on my need & a clear mind to design the campaign for my client, I had to figure out some better options.
As a married man, do you possess that strength of saying “no” to your wife? Of course not & I’m no different either! Thus when my wife heard that one gets really great stuffs (dresses, imitation jewelries, etc) at a reasonable price in Kolkata, there came a command, ‘get me some’… Left with no other choice, I figured out the best place for these kind of material.

Lindsay Street (Night)
Lindsay Street in Kolkata is more like Mohammad Ali Road of Mumbai or Chandni Chowk of New Delhi, where you witness the best of street food, roadside shopping, best of cuisine (Park Street) & some really great hotels too… While I was doing some window shopping, trying to understand my wife’s demand, I came across Oyo Town House 011 at Sudder Street, adjacent to Lindsay Street. Generally, Oyo associates itself with other conventional hotels & work out on profit sharing basis but this one seems to be different.

Lindsay Streer (Evening)
Oyo, in the middle of the market, surrounded by some international crowd (Asians & Europeans), with almost everything you need (ATM, Hospital, Police Station, Clubs, Restaurants) within 100 meters radius. I couldn’t resist in checking out, what this property has to offer! The property appeared to be great & was hardly 3 months old hence, lacked in couple of things like limited food options, no gym or bar but a great lawn, room service available, Tea/Coffee available 24/7, decent rooms with centralized air conditioner, 8 inches foam bed, clean blankets, a study table, a smart led TV, & a neat ‘n’ clean bathroom with shower. Considering the room & the property’s location, I couldn’t ask for more at a price of Rs.3200/- per night including breakfast & taxes. It was simply worth it!

The next day, I checked-out of my current hotel which was at AJC Bose Road & checked-in at Oyo Town house 011. At the reception, I met Abhishek Gupta who suggested me to book the same hotel through Oyo app & as a first time user; I would get a discount of Rs.500/- Who wouldn’t like to save money! I did get a discount of Rs.500/- on my overall bill, thanks to the receptionist! Initially I booked it for 3 nights as I wanted to be sure if this is the kind of hotel I would like to stay till the end of my trip (another 9 days appx). The first day went well! I sat in the lawn for almost 5 hours with my laptop & an undivided attention towards the digital campaign design. I have already informed the receptionist that I need a cup of tea every hour at the lawn & he ensured that my wish is fulfilled. That was the first thing that I liked about their customer service. You don’t have to remind them, they know their job well! Towards the end of the day, I was informed by the receptionist that the hotel manager would like to meet me. Being from a customer service background, I knew what’s coming, hence I asked him to meet me in the lobby in an hour.

“The first step in solving any problem is to recognize there’s one!”

After an hour, I met Mr.Seshnath Upadhyaya, the hotel manager, a well groomed man wearing a suit & a confident smile. One could easily sense that he’s a man with experience. The moment I sat, came a soft drink as a welcome gesture for choosing Oyo over other properties! That was impressive & he did make me feel special! You may agree to disagree but as humans, we seek attention! We wished to be treated well, respectfully & the manager hit the bull’s eye! For the initial 15 minutes, the conversation was more about knowing Kolkata & things that makes Kolkata, the cultural capital of India. During our conversation, I did tell him that I’ve stayed at Hotel Park Prime for 3 days & it was clear through his expressions that he knows about the property & the facilities/amenities they provide. As the property manager, now it was time for him to showcase what the hotel can offer. He never compared Town House with any other hotel. He just showed me the real picture.

‘Sir, I’m sure you might have some expectations with respect to Oyo Town House & thus, before you say anything, let me show you what we can do for you!, said Seshnath. ‘It’s relatively new & hence there’re many things that are under pipeline. You won’t have any complaints when it comes to our rooms or room service. Oyo ensures you the comfort of living at a 4 star property’. I couldn’t deny that ‘cos as a matter of fact, the rooms were cozy & loaded with everything I need.

‘It’s been just 8 days that we opened our own restaurant. Although we have limited dishes (veg & non-veg) covered in our menu, there might be some dishes missing from the menu that suits your taste. However, if there’s any particular dish that you wish to have, we can definitely arrange it for you from the nearby restaurants. We are working on having a full-fledge restaurant & soon it will be active. Also, to avoid any delay in room service for food especially, please inform us in a hour advance. Generally it takes 25-30 minutes to get the food in your room. You’d be happy to see the food before time than being late’. I you are hungry & don’t feel like ordering anything from our restaurant then let me tell you that Sudder street is famous for some really great Chinese, Moghlai & Continental restaurants.

‘We don’t have a bar/lounge as of now however we are working on it. Haven’t said that, we have around 3-4 lounge & bars with 50 meters to the hotel which I can recommend. Soon, Oyo Town House 011 will have a bar & even Hukkahs. Hopefully, you won’t feel the need of a bar/lounge in the hotel.’ Now that’s tempting!

The good part was that Seshnath knew & said it very openly about things that they lack in. I appreciated his honesty! However, he also made sure that those obstacles don’t act as a hurdle in my overall Oyo experience by providing the alternative of things that they can’t offer as of now. Every staff member’s prime focus was to ensure that their customer is happy. Oyo Townhouse has completed changed my perception about Oyo which was just about giving a room with air conditioner at a reasonable price. This was the first time I checked-in at an Oyo Hotel & it was a great experience. Apparently I kept on extending my stay in Oyo Town House till the time I was there in Kolkata.

After a 12 days trip, I came back home & shared my overall experience with my wife. She concluded it beautifully,
“Seems like you stayed at home with family!"
Indeed, it was more of a home than just a hotel!

We don’t compete with any conventional hotel, we are Oyo! – Seshnath Upadhyaya

--- THE OBSESSION --- We all dint realize when our communication went from telegraph, telephone, etc to Skype & Facebook. Now since we are talking about Facebook or Twitter i.e. Social Networking which started from fantasy & passion, slowly & steadily became more of an "OBSESSION". I guess it wont be wrong if I say that likes, followers, shares, connections, etc shows ones credibility in the virtual world. Creating your identity on the virtual world is good but at what cost? As per sources, users are just adding unknown & unwanted people to their friendlist, sharing their personal photos & posts, etc. The reason to do these kind of activities could be many but the ultimate goal is to have a huge fanbase/followers which will result in getting maximum likes/re-tweets on ones post but that's not all. Checking others friendlist or likes on their post & then comparing it with yours, isn't that's what we call obsession? Guys, social media
--- YOUR SOCIAL PRESENCE PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE FOR YOUR FUTURE EMPLOYER--- Have you recently applied or been/planning for an interview? Ever noticed that the form which you are supposed to fill also asks for you social networking info? Well, that not for the employers to send you a friend request or to follow you. The best of you is already mentioned on your CV but what you actually are (in real life) is displayed in your posts on the social networking platforms. According to a survey by job site CareerBuilder India, 59% employers are currently using social media to research on job candidates, while another 33% are planning to access the platform soon.  As per CareerBuilder Human Resources Vice President - Rosemary Haefner, most of the candidates are rejected on the basis of qualification discrepancy (you might have said Grad on your CV but your social profile says UG), your communication skills (the kind of language you use, sentence formation, grammar, tenses, etc issues), inap
